Seniors Dine South of the Border at Sterling Glen of Lynbrook
Sterling Glen of Lynbrook recently held a lively Cinco de Mayo celebration for residents of the distinctive supportive living senior residence. Attendees sipped sangria while nibbling on nachos prepared by Sterling Glen of Lynbrook Chef Christopher Lang. Shown here are Sterling Glen residents showing off their sombreros and maracas. Entertainer Tony Grant serenaded everyone with songs that included “Besa Mi Mucho” and “Copacabana” among others. The event also included a video trip to Mexico. The Cinco de Mayo celebration is just one of the many theme events hosted by Sterling Glen of Lynbrook each month.

June 4: Sterling Glen of Glen Cove Hosts Blood Drive to Help Community Hospitals Save Lives
Sterling Glen of Glen Cove will host a blood drive on Wednesday, June 4, from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Healthy people ages 16 to 76 may donate blood, regardless of type. The blood drive is being sponsored by the Interchange Business Organization, an association of Long Island business owners. “As an integral part of the greater Long Island community, and an affiliate partner with North Shore-LIJ Health Care System, Sterling Glen is honored to be the host site for this crucial effort,” said Michael Ellegaard, Community Relations Director of Sterling Glen of Glen Cove. Blood from one donor can help to save up to three lives. Potential donors must bring valid identification and Social Security Number for registration; weigh a minimum of 110 pounds; eat well and drink fluids; be between the ages of 16 and 76; and not have gotten any tattoos for at least 12 months. Teens who are 16 years old must have written parental permission to donate blood. The total time needed is about one hour, including processing. Actual donation time is only about 15 minutes. Free cholesterol testing will be available to all blood donors. Anyone with medical questions regarding blood donations may call (800) 688-0900. A Taste of Summer Comes to Sterling Glen of Great Neck with Lively Festivals in June
Area Seniors Are Invited to Enjoy Seasonal and Musical Treats at the Distinctive Senior Living Residence Sterling Glen of Great Neck, a luxury supportive senior living residence, is hosting seasonal festivities that are open to the public throughout June. Events are free, except where noted. Wednesday, June 4 – June is strawberry season, and nowhere will the delicious fruit be more evident than at Sterling Glen of Great Neck’s annual Strawberry Festival. The fun begins with a Happy Hour at 3 p.m. Residents and guests will enjoy sweets, such as chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry shortcake and strawberry mousse, throughout the afternoon. After dinner, the festival continues with entertainment by Paul the Piano Man at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 13 – Music historian and entertainer Ed Fleishman presents a lecture on American Musical Theatre at 7:30 p.m.Tuesday, June 24 – Sterling Glen of Great Neck is rounding up the fun at its yearly Country and Western Hoedown from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A full-scale, western-style barbeque will be served and entertainer Stuart Markus will play country tunes. Activities for the Whole Family Are in Bloom in May at Sterling Glen of Bay Shore
Public Is Invited to Shop, Dine and Enjoy Great Music at Assisted Living Senior Residence throughout the MonthSterling Glen of Bay Shore, a distinctive assisted living senior residence near the water, starts off May by hosting its first vendor boutique. The month is filled with live music and fun, and finishes with an informative lecture on diet and nutrition for older adults. All programs are open to the public and free, except where noted. Sunday, May 4 – Sterling Glen of Bay Shore will host a Spring Boutique from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., perfect for purchasing gifts for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or any special occasion. Admission is free. Piaf and Dietrich Are Headline Acts at Sterling Glen of Glen Cove
The stories of Edith Piaf and Marlene Dietrich came to life recently at Sterling Glen of Glen Cove with an edu-tainment presentation by British actress-singer Sylla Haskell entitled, “Looking for ‘La Vie en Rose.’” Haskell’s series of multimedia lectures at the upscale senior living residence will continue through July and provide an intimate look at the lives of great stage, screen and music personalities. May 14: Actress-Singer Brings European Stage Performers to Life at Sterling Glen of Glen Cove
British actress Sylla Haskell continues her multimedia Edu-tainment series at Sterling Glen of Glen Cove with “Continental Wits,” a look at the lives of Victor Borge and Peter Ustinov, both onstage and off. The event takes place May 14 at 2:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.Haskell, who has won acclaim for her presentations on various aspects of the theatre world, has been entertaining residents and guests of Sterling Glen with her unique ongoing series about famous theatrical personalities. Through video clips, profiles and anecdotes, Haskell will highlight Borge, the Danish classical pianist who was known for talking the sublime into the ridiculous; and Ustinov, screen and stage actor, comedian and singer. Promoting Worldwide Harmony at Sterling Glen of Forest Hills
Runners from around the world recently participated in the annual World Harmony Run, a global relay to promote international friendship and understanding, and with them, the World Harmony Run torch was brought into the living room of Sterling Glen of Forest Hills to kick off the event. Sterling Glen of Forest Hills hosted a reception for the runners, who represented Australia, Germany, Holland, England, France, Hungary and the United States. The runners sang songs and showed a movie about the annual event in which, as a symbol of harmony, runners carry a flaming torch, passing it from hand to hand as they travel throughout more than 100 nations. Sterling Glen of Roslyn Hosts Musical Tributes and Celebrates Moms in May
Cultural and Historical Programs at Luxury Residence Are Open to the PublicSterling Glen of Roslyn, the North Shore’s newest concept in luxury senior living, announces its May events, which are open to the public. The following programs are free, except where noted. Saturday, May 3 – Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), one of the most solemn days on the Jewish calendar, will be commemorated at Sterling Glen of Roslyn in conjunction with the Queens Community for Cultural Judaism. QCCJ will present Judaic scholar, author and lecturer Marcia Haddad Ikonomopoulos, Director of the Kehila Kedosha Janina Museum, who will discuss the history of the Jewish community of Ioannina, Greece, most of whom perished during the Holocaust. The program begins at 2 p.m. Cost is $5 for non-members of the QCCJ.
